SONYC After-School Program at Claremont Neighborhood Center


At Claremont Neighborhood Centers, we are proud to partner with School’s Out New York City (SONYC) to provide high-quality after-school programs for middle school students in our community.

Through this collaboration, we offer engaging activities that go beyond the classroom, including academic support, arts, sports, STEM, and leadership development. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where students can explore new interests, develop essential skills, and build confidence.

Program Components


STEAM Programming

Focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, these programs aim to cultivate critical thinking and innovation. Activities include Robotics, Photography, Music Studio sessions, Social Media workshops, the G.E.E.K Squad (focusing on computer skills), and the Teen Battle Chef cooking program.

Creative Arts

These programs encourage artistic expression and cultural appreciation through disciplines such as Art, Chorus, Musical Theater, Piano, Drumming, Digital Arts, and various Dance forms.​ Physical Activities: Promoting health and wellness, CNC offers a range of sports and fitness programs including Basketball Mechanics, Yoga, Physical Fitness, Karate, Boxing, Volleyball, Softball, Flag Football, and Soccer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups do the SONYC programs serve?

Our SONYC programs primarily serve youth ages 12-19. Some components of our family engagement programming may also include resources for parents and younger siblings.

Is there a cost to participate in SONYC programs?

All SONYC programs are provided free of charge to eligible participants, thanks to our community partnerships and grant funding. There is no cost to families to participate.

How often do programs meet?

Program schedules vary based on the specific component. Most youth development and health education sessions meet 1-2 times per week for 8-12 weeks. We offer multiple sessions throughout the year with flexible scheduling options.

Do parents need to be involved?

We value parent/guardian involvement and require participation in the initial orientation. While youth programs are designed for independent participation, we offer additional family engagement opportunities and strongly encourage family involvement in supporting youth development.

Are transportation services available?

Limited transportation assistance may be available for participants with demonstrated need. Please inquire during the application process if transportation is a barrier to participation.
