Claremont Neighborhood Centers, Inc. (CNC) proudly unveiled its state-of-the-art, newly renovated gymnasium on February 22, 2024—a transformational space equipped with a cutting-edge electric scoreboard and professional-grade shot clocks. Funded through the generous support of Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson, who championed the project during her tenure as a New York City Council Member, the revitalized facility stands as a beacon for youth development and community pride.
The gym now hosts a wide range of activities year-round, including community shows, youth soccer leagues, competitive basketball tournaments, live performances, and also functions as a central space for town hall meetings, community forums, special events, and health fairs—bringing people of all ages together in a dynamic, inclusive environment.
The grand reopening was marked by a heartfelt celebration honoring legendary coach Mr. Otis Cooper, whose dedication in the 1970s and '80s left an indelible mark on hundreds of young lives. In a powerful tribute to ongoing leadership and vision, the gymnasium was officially named the A.L Jones Sports Complex, in honor of CNC's Executive Director, Abraham Jones, recognizing his decades of service and unwavering commitment to the Claremont community.
